SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Velvin Hogan, the jury foreman in the Apple vs. Samsung patent infringement case, defended and provided more context on the $1.05 billion judgment against the South Korean consumer electronics giant in a video interview.
Hogan said he used to be skeptical about the role of design patents and trade dresses, but evidence in the case changed his mind. He also discussed his experience winning two patents and his opinions about the U.S. patent system--and his lack of experience using Apple products.
Hogan told
EE Times that he believes the jury's decision was just and that the case will ultimately result in greater protection of intellectual property rights.
