SAN FRANCISCO—Germany's Suss MicroTec AG acquired ultraviolet (UV) projection lithography vendor Tamarack Scientific Co. Inc. for $9.34 million, plus an additional variable earn-out component.
Tamarack (Corona, Calif.) develops, manufactures and distributes UV projection lithography systems as well as laser micro-structuring tools for advanced packaging, 3-D integration, MEMS and LEDs. Suss (Garching, Germany) said the acquisition is part of its consolidation strategy in the semiconductor backend equipment industry through complementing its exposure technology portfolio with projection lithography.
"With this acquisition, we enlarge our company’s lithography segment by adding a new product line and core technology, both of which are highly complementary to our existing exposure capability," said Frank P. Averdung, president and CEO of Suss MicroTec, in a statement.
The additional variable earn-out component of the deal is dependent on sales for the next three financial years, Suss said. Further details of the agreement were not disclosed.
