SAN FRANCISCO—Chip maker LSI Corp. filed a complaint this week with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging patent infringement by Taiwan's MediaTek Inc. and Realtek Semiconductor Corp. and Japan's Funai Electric Co.
LSI (Milpitas, Calif.) alleged in the complaint that the three companies infringed four LSI patents and asked the ITC to bar the importation into the U.S. of digital televisions, home theater systems and DVD players that contain the allegedly infringing chips, according to
a report by the Bloomberg news service. The ITC has not yet decided whether the LSI complaint warrants an investigation.
On Wednesday (March 14), LSI updated its sales target for the quarter ending April 1, citing a stronger than expected hard disk drive market recovery and ramp of flash-based products. LSI said it now expects sales to be between $585 million to $615 million, up from a previously guided range of $550 million to $590 million.
“We are benefiting from better than expected strength in the hard disk drive market in the quarter as our team has done a great job working with our customers to meet this additional demand,” said Abhi Talwalkar, LSI president and CEO, in a statement.
