Marvell CEO named Indonesian diaspora innovator

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-- Marvell Technology Group Ltd. chairman, president, CEO and co-founder, Dr. Sehat Sutardja, has accepted an Indonesian diaspora lifetime achievement award for his efforts in global pioneering and innovation.

Presented by the embassy of the republic of Indonesia at the first congress of Indonesian diaspora between July 6 – 8 in Los Angeles, the award was proffered to Dr. Sutardja for his achievements in advancing technology through innovation in engineering.

Sutardja was likewise recognized for driving adoption of technology into new markets and evangelizing the use of new technologies in developing nations.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled,” said Dr. Sutardja, explaining he was accepting the award on behalf of millions of Indonesians who had left the country “while keeping the Indonesian pride and spirits alive.”

“As a proud son of Indonesia, I am committed to helping Indonesia leapfrog to the knowledge based economy by adapting the most advanced technology that we have developed to make the world a better place,” he said.

Dr. Sutardja, born and raised in Jakarta, personally holds over 260 patents and is regarded as one of the pioneers of the modern semiconductor era. Along with his wife, Weili Dai, Sutardja co-founded Marvell in 1995, today thought of as one of the world’s top fabless semiconductor companies.

The couple have also raised two sons who, following in their parents’ footsteps, have recently become PhD students at UC Berkeley, after completing their graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering.
