Imec, Panasonic R&D collaboration to include flexible electronics

PARIS – Nanoelectronics research center Imec (Leuven, Belgium) and Panasonic Corp. announced they have extended a R&D collaboration agreement for a period of three years to include research in healthcare, wireless communication, advanced CMOS process and flexible electronics.

Since 2004, Panasonic has been participating in Imec’s joint research platform on the most advanced semiconductor process technologies as a core partner to accelerate its open innovation in this field.

Another step was taken in 2008 when the Panasonic Imec Center was established at the Imec premises. The purpose of the collaboration was then to conduct R&D on network technology such as dynamically reconfigurable software-defined radio, ultra-low power consumption wireless communication technology for healthcare and lifestyle monitoring and biomedical technology such as next generation biosensors.

Over the past 8 years, Panasonic said its residents have been working closely together with Imec’s research teams both in Leuven, Belgium and Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

“Through a collaborative approach of R&D, sharing resources and results, but also strongly protecting the generated IP, imec supports Panasonic already for 8 years to be at the forefront of innovation,” stated Luc Van den hove, President and CEO of Imec.
