According to people familiar with the matter, Apple Corp plans to start using Intel's chips on Mac instead of Intel's processor.
The plan, named Kalamata, is either still in the early stages of development, but it is part of a broader strategy that aims to get all apples, including Mac, iPhone and iPad.
The device works more similarly and achieves seamless collaboration. People familiar with the situation asked for anonymity because the information was undisclosed. The plan has been adopted by Apple executives, and there may be multiple stages of transition.
This change will be a blow for Intel. According to Bloomberg supply chain analysis, about 5% of Intel's annual revenues come from apple.
Apple is still theoretically able to abandon or postpone this plan. Apple refused to comment.
