TSMC's June sales surge 20% year-over-year

SAN FRANCISCO—Foundry giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. said Tuesday (July 10) that sales in June were up more than 20 percent compared to the same period of 2011, but down compared with the previous month.

TSMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) said June sales totaled NT$42.87 billion (about $1.43 billion) on an unconsolidated basis, up 20.2 percent from June 2011 but down 1.7 percent from May. Sales through June totaled NT$230.75 billion (about $7.7 billion), an increase of 9.7 percent compared to the same period in 2011, TSMC said.

On a consolidated basis, including revenues from TSMC's U.S. subsidiary WaferTech, June sales totaled about NT$43.43 billion (roughly $1.45 billion), down 1.6 percent from May but up 18.4 percent compared with June 2011, TSMC said. Consolidated revenues through June totaled NT$233.57 billion (about $7.8 billion), an increase of 8.2 percent compared with the same period of 2011, TSMC said.

On Monday, United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC), TSMC's rival, announced that sales for June were greater than in the year-ago period for the first time in 2012.
